It’s easy to spend all our time on the latest and greatest releases – everyone wants the new, shiny version. At the same time, a lot of great watches get overshadowed. While we wouldn’t say that replica Rolex watches are particularly underappreciated these days, there are some watches that deserve your attention more than others. These watches are classics, yes, but they’re a mix of previous-generation references, discontinued models, and even examples currently in production that we think deserve a closer look.
The Rolex Daytona has a striking contrasting dial and a famous case profile that no other cheap watch compares to. In this example, the ref. 116520, was introduced by the brand in 2000, replacing the ref. 16520 that had been in production since 1988, which had been in production since 2000. Most importantly, it contains Rolex’s first in-house chronograph movement, the caliber 4130.
In metal, the watch is truly striking and immediately recognizable as a Daytona – its 40 mm steel case, screw-down pushers and crown, and steel bezel provide a unique canvas for the unmistakable black and white dial configuration. The 116520 was replaced by a steel and ceramic model in 2016. the 116500, a watch that was nearly impossible to find six years after its release. With demand for the 116500 not slowing down, we think it’s time to revisit Rolex’s OG in-house Daytona.
The Yacht Prestige is Rolex’s youngest and most stylish sports watch. first introduced in 1992, the Yacht Prestige has an easily recognizable bezel execution with a 60-minute scale, bi-directional design, and digital relief. As fake Rolex knows, we have gradually seen a gradual renewal of the design language of the Yacht Prestige collection. Since 1999, the Yacht-Master collection has been known for its tone-on-tone bimetallic construction, which combines stainless steel (Oyster steel) case and straps with a platinum bezel. 2015 saw the Yacht-Master updated with an attractive blue dial and bright red accents, and in 2019 the brand equipped the collection with the state-of-the-art self-winding caliber 3235 in the new Ref. 126622.
While familiar in terms of the overall design, the Ref. 116622 is Rolex’s expression of a more refined luxury sports watch that includes a bi-directional bezel in platinum in addition to a stainless steel case, as well as water resistance to 100 meters and a screw-down crown with crown protection. On the dial, a Maxi-style configuration with a white date aperture with a “Cyclops” magnifying glass, large hands and hour-markers made of white gold, and some particular color accents that are exclusive to the long-underappreciated Yacht-Master collection. However, we see the previous generation of the Yachtmaster line, the ref. 116622. Measuring 40mm x 12mm, this copy watch sits low and tight, with a curved profile closer to Rolex’s classic Oyster case design than the sharper “super” profile found on most modern Submarines.
